CAMERA ANGLES 

• At 0:16, there is an over the shoulder shot of Lola looking at Jake. This is when he is singing, and it makes it apparent to the viewer that he is singing to her even though he is performing in front of a whole crowd. This makes the song more personal and conforms to the stereotype of a romantic film where the boy serenades the girl.
• At 1:01 to 1:04 there is a zooming in medium close up shot of Lola, and the lyrics read when this is done are “hand in hand, sparkling eyes”. This says to the viewer that he is in fact singing about her and she is actually in a slight spotlight so she stands out from everyone else. Again this suggests that his words are genuine and it is even more romantic that he has put these words into a song on her behalf.
• At 1:26 there is a medium shot of Jake and Lola kissing. The spotlight is cast upon them and the camera does a pan right around so that the clip ends on the back of Lola’s head. This is done in slow motion under a spotlight and this adds to the subtlety of the romantic side of the film, emphasising this amorous moment and stresses the fact that this is love between two young people hence enforcing the idea of the romantic element and that romance is a common feature in a teenager’s life.
• 1:48 shows a medium shot of Lola’s mother biting her finger in a ditsy fashion. This shows how love has affected her and almost echoes the movements of a young girl which could show that this is what being in love has done to her: bringing out her youthful side. This conforms to the stereotype of romance again.

 EDITING

Throughout this scene most things are in slow motion and the way this is the last scene of the film could make it seem cliché but then conforms to the stereotype of a happy ending in a romance film. The clips in slow motion are clearly for focusing on the moment and again add to the slow paced nature of a romantic film, but still contrasts t the fastness of the life of a teenager.

SOUND

The diegetic sound in this clip is actually the main soundtrack of the film and works especially well in this clip as it is a positive clip and the song is upbeat and the lyrics are passionate such as “I’ve been crazy about you all this time” and “’cause when I’m with you I’m grinning.” It works as the film is coming towards an end and the song finishes it off well and goes with the happy ending.

MISE EN SCENE

• At 0:46 the scene shows a clip of Lola’s mum and her new boyfriend in a boat with plenty of lights: this sets the scene for a romantic boat trip and the lighting against the black really sets the scene as both are arm in arm and look like they are having a good time.
• The microphone Jake uses and being on stage actually makes him look professional and makes his song appear more heartfelt when he sings to Lola on stage in front of everyone. His attire also makes him look “cool” which is a convention of a typical teenage genre film.
• The medium shot of the iPhone at 2:16 conforms to the stereotype of a modern film which uses modern technology, another aspect of being a teenager in the era so it also includes conventions of a teenage film.
• The dress that Lola is wearing is a sleeveless black dress which is low cut, suggesting still towards the end of the film that she is a sexually overt character and also being a teenager showing off your body is a common feature so a lot of teenage girls can relate to her dress sense whether it be in this scene or throughout the whole film.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->The trailer consists of mainly quick fade in and fade outs transition wise and this conforms to the stereotype of a film of a romantic genre to be quite slow paced and subtle.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->The credits used all show up as if being typed which goes with the idea of new technology and instant messaging being a big part of the film which furthermore agrees with the target audience of young teenagers ho frequent the internet often: the blue and white could also connote the usage of Facebook, another frequently used social networking site for teens which will make them more relative to the film

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->The voice over gives details about the romantic side of the film such as “it feels so good to love someone so much that it hurts” or “trying to love but laugh out loud.” These again conform to the romantic stereotype of the film but also stick to the teenage drama genre as well. The lines said in the voice over give enough away so that the audience know what the film is about, but still creates enigmas because if they haven’t yet watched the movie then they won’t know what these lines mean or lead to.

SOUND

The school bell at the start of the trailer initiates the start of it and also queues the first scene introduced of the teenagers at school. This fits in well with the genre of a teenage drama and conforms to the stereotypes of this genre, too, as a school bell is a sound obviously common in the school environment.

Colloquialisms are used such as “go with the flow” or “whatever” so the stereotypes of a teenage movie is conformed to. This can make the target audience of mainly teenagers be able to engage more with the film as diegetic speech used in this trailer is things that they would say.

“A C in History, a D in biology?”  “There are a few things I won’t tolerate...”like messing up your life.”  These are typical things that a mother would say to their teenage daughter which can make the film seem more realistic and something that the target teenage audience can relate to.

It’s so good to love someone so much that it hurts” – this is diegetic evidence that the film conforms to the genre of a teenage romance that the film is trying to portray.

CAMERA ANGLES

• Medium close up shots are used especially for the intimate moments throughout the film and this emphasises the romantic moment and also highlights the actors’/actresses’ attire  e.g. 0:14 and this makes it obvious that these people are mainly teenagers, giving the genre and target audience away so the teenagers hopefully lured in by this film trailer.
• ·         Over the shoulder shots are used, such as at 1:14 to show who the conversations taking place are being exchanged with.  At this time in the trailer one can see that the conversation is between Lola and her mum, again going with the stereotypical mum and daughter conversation.
• ·         At 2:00 there is a medium shot of Lola who has positioned her hands in a love heart shape over one of her eyes. This is a connotation of love and enforces the stereotype of love and romance within one hand gesture. It could be considered by some as cute and this could be part of the enticement for the viewers.

MISE EN SCENE

The most obvious mise en scene for this trailer is the outfits. They are young and vibrant looking consisting of leather jackets, denim for the boys and girls and skirts and low cut tops for the girls. This conforms to the teenage genre as the outfits are youthful looking and are typical things a teenager would wear.

Poster Deconstruction

The film poster background is a mid shot of Miley Cyrus, the protagonist. This is an attribute to promoting the film and luring teenagers (the intended audience) to watch this as she is a popular teenage actress featured in other teenage based films such as the Hannah Montana Movie and The Last Song. People will see a known face and if they are fans they will this will give them even more reason to watch the film. Also some consider her to be attractive, mostly teenage boys so by choosing an attractive actress the film will gain more hits if they watch it for her sake.

The house style of this film poster consists of soft, almost pastel colours but the font is in fuchsia making it stand out from the page and possibly match its target audience of mainly girls.

The actual title of the movie is in text speak showing that it is up to date with technology and how the film will revolve around maybe text messages or some form on instant message which will satisfy the teenage target audience of this film making them more relative towards the movie. The font is also in a digital type lettering which furthermore backs up the idea of how the film is set in the new era.

The attire of the protagonist is very modern and is typically what teenage girls wear and the slight off shoulder shirt could suggest the actress being a slightly older teenager which conforms to the films target audience and genre.

Looking closely at the slogan of the shirt, it reads “on the road to love” which could connote a possible romance in the film and the pink font conforms to the romantic genre.

Miley Cyrus looks deeply engaged in the iPhone in her hand, again promoting the idea that the film is new and “cool”, intriguing teenagers to watch it hence achieving their target audience.
